A Utah father has been arrested for drunk driving after being involved in a minor car accident while driving his two young children. Authorities say that the Salt Lake City father rear-ended another car on Tuesday night and fled the scene of the crash, leaving his two children behind.
Authorities were able to contact the father and encourage him to return to the scene of the car accident. When the father returned he was arrested and given field sobriety tests, which he failed. The father’s blood alcohol was then measured and turned out to be 0.3 percent, which is almost four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Police also say that the father was driving on a suspended license. It is unclear why his license was suspended, but he did have a prior DUI arrest in 2006.
The father has been charged with a variety of crimes related to the crash and his flight including hit-and-run, drunk driving and child endangerment. Fox News reports that the children were evaluated at a nearby hospital and then given to relatives. The children reportedly only suffered minor injuries in the crash.
