Man faces charges following DUI accident in Salt Lake City

When authorities stop a driver or arrive at the scene of a crash, there are various steps they need to take in order to establish the cause of the incident or cite a driver for a traffic violation. If an officer suspects that a driver is intoxicated, they could ask the driver to go through a series of tests. Depending on the results of a field sobriety test and even a blood alcohol test, the driver could face an arrest and a DUI charge,

Authorities in Salt Lake arrested a 44-year-old West Valley City man for driving under the influence. This occurred after the driver was involved in an accident that resulted in the death of a 79-year-old man. Moreover, authorities believe that the suspected drunk driver caused the fatal hit-and-run accident.

According to reports, officers stated that the man was allegedly speeding in an apartment complex parking lot when they collided with another vehicle and then struck a pedestrian. Following the accident, the driver apparently fled the scene. When authorities located the suspected driver, they asked the driver to submit to a breath test to establish his blood alcohol content. Officers claim that he was nearly three times the legal limit. This resulted in his arrest and DUI charge.

When a driver faces a drunk driving charge as well as other charges following a DUI accident, it is important that they establish a defense against the charges. A strong defense strategy could prove successful and evidence uncovered during investigation could lead to charges being reduced or dropped. This could be accomplished if there was an error in the search and seizure procedure conducted by authorities.

A drunk driving charge could mean serious consequences and could seriously affect the life of the accused. Being knowledgeable of the situation would allow the driver to make proper decisions regarding their defense options. This will also ensure their interests are served and their rights protected.
