The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the termination of Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Lisa Steed was recently affirmed by an administrative judge. Steed was fired after it was determined that she lied during several drunk driving cases and arrested people who were not intoxicated.
Prior to the scandal surrounding her termination, Steed was named trooper of the year for making over 200 DUI arrests. The Salt Lake Tribune estimates that the trooper has arrested over 1,000 Utah residents for drunk driving since beginning her career in 2002, but it is now unclear just how many of those individuals were actually intoxicated.
Dozens of drivers are appealing their convictions based on the deceptive acts of this trooper. It should be noted that the Utah Highway Patrol has not formally accused Steed of making false arrests although the opinions of several judges seemed to suggests that false arrests have occurred.
Beyond appealing their arrests, some people are calling for the arrest of the former trooper.
“They get arrested. They get thrown in jail,” one attorney said of his clients. “They’d like to see the same thing happen to her.”
